She groans as she walks up the stairs, the weight of the day settling on her shoulders. As She reaches her apartment door, number 209, she digs around her purse absentmindedly sliding her hand around until her fingers touch the cool metal of her keys. Walking in, she takes a deep breath, suddenly relieved to be free of school stresses for the day.

She lays her head back, resting it on her couch blanket, breathing in it’s comforting smell, her eyes droop. She can fall asleep but her mind is wondering. She turns towards her purse sitting next to her and stares at it. She’s startled to hear the buzzing that her purse is emitting. Breathing hard now, she feels a hollow pit in her stomach as she realizes what she’s done. Or rather, what she has failed to do. Frantically she sits up and flips her bag on it’s side, emptying out it’s contents. She quickly spots her touch screen phone with its pastel pink case. The screen glares, a small light flashing, telling her about 3 messages and 2 missed calls.

Her pink tongue licks the corner of her mouth as she taps the screen and the phone comes to life. Her nervous fingers tap until she sees that the messages are from her email, classmate, and one from Him. She scrolls through the calls, one from a company and the other from Him, she sees that he had called when she had a break, He knew she had a break when he called, “why didn’t I answer my phone?” she whispers to herself, moves her bangs from her face and proceeds to open his text. “Answer your cell, Annie.”  

Those four words say everything she needs to know. There was no need to wonder if he was mad. “fuck…” she sighs and feels a flush as she dials his number. It rings twice, three times, then she hears a key at the door. She listens as he works the lock and hears his phone vibrating in his pocket. She hangs up as he walks in to the living room, she stands, her face hot and her palms sweaty. ” Hi babe…”
